The can
The can
PHOTOGRAPHER: ARTHUR BELEBEAU
This up-close image of a crushed, rusted, and torn Budweiser beer can may literally represent something we would think of as used and flattened, but because of Belebeau’s techniques in capturing the object photographically, it visually alludes to an American flag waving in the wind. The folds in the aluminum, the glossy light and shadows bouncing off its curvature, and the red, white, and blue imagery of the product create a sense of ultra glamor. Through Belebeau’s distinctive style, a usually dsiregarded object has turned into a high fashion symbol of Americana, of hot summer nights, and of years past in which we may have held one of these cans ourselves, somewhere on a beach as the sun slowly set over the water.
