OUR mission

With the major shifts in the media world, we will all soon be nostalgic about that incredible creative talent that was bubbling on a set and populated major glossies.

Founded in February 2018 in New York City, The Selects Gallery’s mission is to create a platform dedicated to Fashion photography to discover, learn and acquire the works of renowned international photographers.

We comb through the archives of the most iconic past and present beauty and fashion photographers to unearth their hidden gems. We leverage the power of online and offline media to share their story, artistic approach and point of view on society with a wider audience.

our STORY

Throughout her former 20-year career as an executive in fashion and beauty, founder Marie Audier D'Alessandris was privileged to work with some of the most talented photographers in the industry, along with their teams of makeup artists, hairdressers, and stylists.

She was struck by the fact that, with so much talent on set, only a few images were chosen to represent each shoot, whether it was for an editorial feature, an ad, or for the photographer’s personal portfolio. Those images would then have a very short lifespan before getting archived. She always found this a terrible waste and decided to give those extraordinary images a second life with The Selects gallery.

our FOUNDER

Marie Audier D'Alessandris has always been passionate about photography, book collecting, and beautiful images. An ardent learner, she explored photography development in dark rooms when argentic was the only way to take pictures. She attended NYU for Art Business Studies and took MOMA’s Seeing Through Photographs course. She is also an adviser to Red Hook Labs School and a contributor to The Eye of Photography.

In her last professional role, Marie was the Senior Vice President of Global & North America Marketing for Coach, Inc. Prior to Coach, she held various marketing positions for L'Oréal in France and in the U.S. During her 20 years working in marketing in the Beauty and Fashion industries, she feels fortunate to have worked with myriad creative photographers that inspired her deeply.

Marie was born in France, has lived in Colombia, and resides in New York City with her husband and her two boys.

FEMALE FOUNDER COLLECTIVE

The Selects Gallery is a proud member of the Female Founder Collective, which is a business network of all female owned companies. With a mission statement of women supporting women, FFC is in pursuit of “enabling and empowering female owned and led businesses to positively impact our communities, both socially and economically.” (FFC).

ONE TREE PLANTED

The Selects Gallery is conscious of sustainability and aims to help advocate for our planet through our partnership with One Tree Planted. One Tree Planted is a 501(c)(3) charity determined to combat deforestation on a global scale. For each piece purchased from our gallery, One Tree Planted has pledged to plant a tree. Their reforestation efforts make it easy for both individuals and businesses to give back to our environment and we at The Selects Gallery are grateful to a part of their mission.

The framer we work with at The Selects Gallery is also partnered with One Tree Planted, so really for each piece sold from the gallery, two trees are planted!

SUSTAINABILITY

The Selects Gallery strives to practice better sustainability through our manufacturing; from on-demand production, and ground shipping, to the paper we print on and the wood we use for framing. We believe that quality is a great way to be sustainable.

Each piece from the gallery is made to order, this ensures that resources are employed only when there is absolute demand from customers. When practicing on-demand production there is no room for waste and consumer demand is always met exactly.
