FIRST EDITION OF THE ST. BARTH PHOTO FESTIVAL
The Festival, located in Saint Barthelemy Island, starts with an exhibition at Wallhouse Museum called Emergence to recognize the new generation of Fashion photographers, followed by an impressive group of ten established photographers until the End of December. Each photographer will be celebrated in a very Saint Barth way through a series of festive opening parties every night.

ST BARTH PHOTO FESTIVAL 2021 | GREG LOTUS: BY THE POOL AT THE CHRISTOPHER HOTEL
The second opening party of St Barth Photo Festival 2021 will unveil the exhibition By The Pool by Greg Lotus, at the Christopher Hotel on November 25th. Following on from the opening party of Ellen von Unwerth at the Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France the night before, visitors will enjoy on Thanksgiving Day a selection of eleven images of the American photographer.

American artist, famous for his work in the field of fashion and advertising, Robert Farber is considered one of the masters of nude photography. Along with a more commercial production, he frequented the theme of the erotic portrait, with results of the highest refinement. Farber's is an elegant nudity, imbued with fantasy and a vein of mystery: his photographs are carnal, poetic, characterized by bold cuts and strong luministic contrasts.

ROBERT FARBER | DETERIORATION SERIES: THE ART OF EMBRACE
During the 1990s, American photographer Robert Farber decided to comb through the photographs he had taken between 1977 and 1984. Rather than finding them as he had remembered them, Farber was met instead with works that had taken on – as he calls it – a “new life” reaching beyond his original artistic vision. The images, which had been sitting in non- archival plastic sleeves for decades, had “deteriorated” through a chemical reaction.

[…] Featuring 11 photographs from five different Farber collections (“Deterioration,” “Running Horses,” “Polaroid,” “Iconic Nudes,” and the “Wet” series), the exhibition is on view at Liaigre’s Manhattan showroom in collaboration with The Selects Gallery. “The collaboration between Robert Farber and Liaigre felt very natural as they both draw on their exceptional expertise and savoir-faire while embracing the impact of time and natural change,” says Selects Gallery’s curator Marie Audier D’Alessandris.

ARTS INNOVATION AMID COVID RESTRICTIONS: A NEW ROBERT FARBER EXHIBITION
His commercial photography has always echoed fine art composition. He continues to set up different mediums to be in a continuous conversation with each other. Farber is not only interested in illustrating ideas of change over time, but he is also constantly adapting to changing circumstances. Most recently, he’s worked to create video animations of his works that degraded with time. His animations are a new art form themselves while also showing how an individual artwork changes with time and age.

CHRIS VON WANGENHEIM: GLAMOUR AND DANGER
For Miami Art Week, The Selects Gallery is presenting “Glamour and Danger”, an exclusive exhibition about cult photographer Chris von Wangenheim starting December 04th 2020 for Miami art week along with a live talk with the artists that worked on set with the photographer. In the 1970s, the photographer Chris Von Wangenheim radically challenged the public taste with high fashion photographs capturing the zeitgeist and cultural changes of the era.

The Selects Gallery was founded in February 2018 in New York City as a platform to discover, learn, and acquire art photography from the world’s best fashion photographers. The gallery was born from the desire of founder Marie Audier D’Alessandris to give a second life to these images sleeping in archives and in many cases forgotten after the original photoshoot.

Beyond the podcasts which I launched this year, I continued to have the opportunity to interview some incredible founders, doers and makers in 2019 for this site. Three women were also interviewed for the podcast, but many who create beautiful jewelry, art, clothing and home were best suited for an online story so you could see their inspiring work.

BRINGING FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY HOME: THE SELECTS GALLERY
Marie knows, like I do, the sometimes Herculean effort that goes into creating a memorable fashion photograph; it often includes travel to exotic locales for the right backdrop or complicated custom-built sets, the creative vision of the stylist and photographer (and overseeing company funding it all), the hair, the makeup, the clothes, and the model or subject that makes the image jump off the page. But after spending 15 years at L’Oreal in Paris and NYC and 5 at Coach, Marie felt like much of this effort was a waste, because the end result often showed up for one month in a magazine, and then was relegated to archives. Marie’s solution? Her year-old online gallery, The Selects Gallery, which features the work of fashion and beauty photographers by offering large scale prints mean to grace any wall you see fit.
