THE ICONIC 1970s: PORTRAITS OF STUDIO 54

January - June 2025

New York, NY

Step back into the dazzling era of the 1970s at Minotti New York’s showroom, where The Selects Gallery unveils “The iconic 1970s: Portraits of Studio 54”. This exhibition celebrates the legendary nightclub that defined New York City nightlife and pop culture, through intimate portraits of figures who shaped its legacy. Though its doors were open for just 33 months, Studio 54 left an indelible mark. Known for its exclusivity, celebrity clientele and creative scenography, Studio 54 was more than a nightlife hotspot—it was a cultural crucible where rising stars and cultural pioneers mingled, creating moments that would define an era.

This exhibition brings together the iconic photography of Rose Hartman, whose lens captured the magic of Studio 54 and its most memorable moments. From Bianca Jagger's grand entrance on a white horse to Andy Warhol’s quiet reflections amid the chaos, her striking compositions, marked by dramatic contrasts, transform the club’s energy into intimate vignettes, making each image timeless.

Through an exclusive collaboration with The Selects Gallery, Hartman pairs her photographs with personal narratives, adding a unique emotional storytelling layer to her already iconic images. Her rare perspective as both participant and observer shines through. At 83, Hartman’s extraordinary career and sharp storytelling continue to resonate as she reflects on an era when art, fashion, music, and glamour collided under the shimmering lights of Studio 54.

This exhibition is more than a showcase of photographs; it’s a piece of NYC’s cultural history, preserved through Rose’s extraordinary lens, a window into the fleeting yet formative moments that shaped some of the most recognizable names in culture.
