Richard Phibbs honours the natural world, believing strongly in the importance of each living being. In this image Phibbs creates a portrait of nature as he stages each flower to be picture ready. The flowers, usually a symbol of celebration and happiness, take on a sombre attitude here as they are captured in shadowed darkness with their petals appearing a ghostly translucent shade of pink and white. Phibbs’ melancholy depiction of nature hints at its fragility yet continues to display its constant beauty, as the flowers, although washed in darkness, remain colourful and perfectly formed.
