Collector and editor Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis brought photographer Robert Farber to Doubleday to publish his iconic book By the Sea, which went on to win the Art Director's Award for its masterful color photography - making it a sought-after collectible for fine art photography enthusiasts.
The Polaroids series has been shot over a period 50 years. It is cherished by the artist for its significant connotations to analog photography, the spontaneity of the medium, and its anchor in the past. It was also instrumental to the artist’s painterly, moody style. The quality of the images and the stories behind them are sacred to the artist.
The Iconic Nudes series, for which Robert Farber is well known, offers a deep sense of elegance and timelessness. His book ”Farber’s Nudes” caught the eye of Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis; she brought Farber to DoubleDay and observed his photographs from the French Riviera which led to the creation of the book “By the Sea”. “Farber’s Nudes” was also included in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis estate collection.
The Deterioration Series was created organically over 30 years. It started unintentionally due to the film’s chemical reaction from sitting in non-archival plastic sleeves and Farber allowed the process to continue. He did not manipulate it and monitored it for decades. Farber finally decided to end the deterioration process in 2013 when his abstract exploration of differently-shaped stains and intricate color-shifts created striking new imagery that pleased him.
Farber's unique diversity in subject, whether it be nudes or moods from seascapes to cityscapes has always been captured in his signature painterly, romantic style.
A rare selection of one-of-a-kind Robert Farber works, including uniquely customized pieces that capture his iconic vision in singular form.
