SX70 #092
PHOTOGRAPHER: ROBERT FARBER
SX70 #092 is among the most graphically forceful images in Robert Farber's Polaroid series. Shot from below looking upward, the frame fills with the underside of a cast-iron fire escape: the lattice of shadow it throws across the building's stone facade, the diagonal tension of the staircase structure against a square air duct below. The image is composed entirely in opposing forces: diagonal versus horizontal, solid versus void, the geometric against the incidental.
Farber's training as a fashion photographer is visible in the control of light and the precision of the crop. But the image belongs equally to the tradition of New York street photography in the manner of Berenice Abbott's urban studies or the early architectural photography of Walker Evans. The Polaroid white border contains this visual energy the way a mat frames a print: it defines the image as an object as much as a window. For collectors and interior designers, SX70 #092 makes a strong anchor piece, particularly in urban or industrial interiors where its graphic intensity finds natural resonance.
