"When I was working on my book By The Sea, I isolated the bow of this row boat tied up at the dock in Portofino. For instant gratification, I first took this picture with my SX 70 Polaroid. I then followed it by taking it on film, and it became the cover of my book. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis brought it into Doubleday to publish the book and gave it its title, “By The Sea""
A red wooden boat on a sepia-blue sea, the clouds reflected in the calm surface of the water. Robert Farber’s polaroids, taken throughout his career, serve as explorations of the medium which contain the artist’s impressionistic style and have the feeling of shared memories between the artist and viewer.
