This image of Linda Evangelista, one of the most accomplished and influential models of all time was taken in New York in 1989. It is part of a series shot by Antoine Verglas very early on in his career for Elle France, featuring the most famous models of the time in the confidential setting of their own apartment.
Noted for her resemblance to Italian actress Sophia Loren, Evangelista had just become the new face of Versace and one year later the face of Revlon and was named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People”.
The documentary-like approach mixed with the photographer’s unique personality makes anyone at ease and feels very special, giving this photograph sense an intimate and sensual feel which has become known as the “Verglas Signature”.
