This portrait of America's most celebrated fashion model Cindy Crawford was taken in New York in 1989. It is part of a series shot by Antoine Verglas very early on in his career for Elle France, featuring the most famous models of the time in the confidential setting of their own apartment.
In 1989 Crawford was host of MTV House of Style and starred in the Pepsi and Pepsi Stuff advertising. A year later in January, she appeared alongside top models Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz and Naomi Campbell on the cover of the January 1990 edition of British Vogue magazine.
The documentary-like approach mixed with private set up and the photographer’s unique laid back and warm style, known as the “Verglas Signature” makes this photograph uniquely real and intimate. It carries a very palpable feeling of comfort which makes it very sensual.
