THE SELECTS GALLERY FEATURED IN THE FASHION STORIES
Forgotten Fashion Photographers Back in Grace
It is an event that art lovers do not miss. From May 2 to 5, 2019 Art New York will be held, a fair presenting many disciplines - photography, sculpture, drawings - in the Big Apple.
Among the exhibitions scheduled, The Selects Gallery is one of the highlights. Founded by Marie Audier D'Alessandris, this digital gallery, with an innovative concept, proposes to (re) discover the work of great fashion photographers, adored by the initiated but unknown to the general public. The French - established in New York - selects in their archives forgotten gems. Sublime shots come alive online and are sold in the form of neat prints.
At Art New York, The Selects Gallery brings to light several artists during a physical exhibition. It does justice to Chris Von Wangenheim, a forgotten star of fashion photography whose glamorous style is close to his contemporaries: Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin. A small event because his pictures are not visible for nearly 40 years!
Another photographer not to be missed: Giovanni Gastel, who is none other than Luchino Visconti's nephew! Again, The Selects Gallery corrects an error. The award-winning artist, recognized throughout Europe, had never been exhibited in the United States. This is an opportunity to dive into his poetic universe. His photographs, inspired by theater and Italian comedy, evoke a daydream. In the spotlight: evanescent women who seem to escape the goal.
In the space, we must also focus on the work of Kenneth Willardt, a beauty specialist, and Richard Phibbs, whose Bill Clinton, Ralph Lauren and Francis Ford Coppola are fans.
