ART NEW YORK

May 02 – May 05, 2019

Pier 94, New York

The Selects Gallery will exhibit Prominent Fashion Photographers,

Giovanni Gastel and Chris Von Wangenheim

for the first time in the US at Art New York

Since its launch in February 2018, The Selects Gallery’s unique focus has been to unearth some of the most extraordinary artworks in fashion photography by digging into the archives of major Fashion Photographers who are lesser known to a larger audience - artists recognized by fashion insiders or famous photographers in their own country.

At Art New York and for the first time in the US, The Selects Gallery is pleased to unveil hidden gems from masters such as Chris Von Wangenheim whose photographs have not been seen in about 40 years, Giovanni Gastel who despite being one of the most recognized Fashion photographers in Italy has virtually never been exhibited in the US, Richard Phibbs whose fine art photography is in the private collections of Bill Clinton, Ralph Lauren, Francis Ford Coppola and Michael Eisner among others, and Kenneth Willardt, one of the most enduring and sharpest contemporary Beauty photographers.

The Selects Gallery is also pleased to exhibit well-established Fashion photographers such as Andre Carrara, Paul Bellaart, Patrick James Michel or Greg Lotus.

at the show

The Selects Gallery was a very lively space during the Art New York show on Pier 94.

On opening day, we had the chance to host the visit of Regine Jaffrey, the wife, model, and muse of Chris von Wangenheim. She was very enthusiastic to discover her late husband’s images exhibited for the first time in 40 years. The crowd included a few fashion photography insiders who have had the chance to work with Chris von Wangenheim. Some of our photographers came such as Patric Shaw and Kenneth Willardt.

Thank you to the Art New York organization committee for their support as we were central to their Instagram communication as well as newsletter. The Selects Gallery was also selected to be part of the Artsy VIP collector tour.
