Pace Gallery in New York is currently presenting Along the Way, a major exhibition celebrating the timeless artistry of Paolo Roversi, one of fashion photography’s most revered image-makers. On view from September 12 to October 25, 2025, the show coincides with New York Fashion Week, offering an intimate retrospective spanning over three decades of Roversi’s career

Through a selection of evocative portraits and fashion images created between the early 1990s and today, Along the Way pays tribute to Roversi’s long-standing collaborations with designers, models, and magazines that have shaped the visual language of contemporary fashion.

“Every portrait is a meeting, an exchange, a mutual intimate confession,” Roversi has said — a sentiment that perfectly encapsulates the emotional depth of his work.

Born in Ravenna, Italy, Roversi draws on the city’s Byzantine heritage to infuse his imagery with a painterly, spiritual aura. His soft focus, luminous lighting, and dreamlike compositions blur the line between photography and painting, transforming his subjects into timeless icons. Working primarily with large-format Polaroid film in his Paris studio, Roversi’s process invites chance and intimacy, letting “the dream and the imaginary prevail.”

As curator Sylvie Lécallier observed, Roversi’s photography “is detached from the ephemeral trends of fashion — located both at the heart of fashion and at its edge.” This duality has earned him an enduring place in the canon of fashion imagery, inspiring generations of photographers and creatives.

With Along the Way, Pace Gallery highlights not only Roversi’s technical mastery and poetic vision but also his profound ability to capture beauty that transcends time — a celebration of both the art and soul of fashion photography.
